One of the greatest hoaxes you can find in Singapore are the "Free Public WiFi" connections you can find almost everywhere. Although it seems like, well as the names says, you get free access to the internet, instead you try to make a ad-hoc (computer to computer) connection. If the other user is not a hacker but somebody who also has fallen for the same hoax there is no direct safety issue. Or if you have updated your windows version. For old Windows version, due to an error, you computer starts also broadcasting this same "Free Public WiFi" and a hacker can, if he encounters your computer, enter your computer.
As I have found on the internet, this hoax is also very active in other countries. Have not really seen any messages of this hoax being used in the Netherlands, but still you have to be careful. I think this, once again, states the importance of updating your computer.
