Entrance of the zoo with birds |
Today I went to the Singapore Zoo. What an experience! In contrary what you will expect in an European zoo, this zoo has amazing nature but most of all free roaming animals. Don't think that you will see tigers running free, but all harmless living creatures which can deal with humans are free to go within the area given; upon entering the zoo a couple of monkeys jumped from one ledge to another, right in front of me.

Beautiful nature of the zoo |
To explain the beautiful nature, let me tell you that this park is build inside one of the nature reserves of Singapore. Because of this, the whole zoo is build inside the real jungle or rain forest. It makes the nature is amazing of this zoo.
After getting used to the idea that some animals would be walking about freely, I walked down the pathway and decided I would walk the tourist route. Which would guarantee that I would see everything. First there were some, well how to put it nicely, animals you can see in any zoo. But after that, well, first some kangaroos in the Australian Outback, which could be petted if the came close enough. And then some white tigers, never seen any of them before so I was pretty impressed. One of the white tigers loved to swim. But before entering the water, he or she always touched it first with its paw to be sure, or something like that.

After the tigers I went to the center part of the zoo which houses a lot of monkey, most of them I never heard of before. The zoo also houses giant turtles, snakes, lions, zebras, giraffes, and lots more.

Leaving out the animals for a bit, I would like to spend some time on the behavior of visitors to the park. OK, I know the phrases "Please do not knock on the window!" and "Please do not you your flash!" are pretty hard to get, but come on. First reading the phrase at load, to do exactly the thing that is forbidden afterwards?! Well, I think people just want animal action for their money as the zoo is not that cheap, but it is still strange to first read a prohibition and then perform the action, right?
|
The use of scooters in the zoo |
Also the use of motorized vehicles for people, who are capable of walking them self, but just want to sit all day in some kind of scooter so they won't get tired?! And yes, I'm really sure those people can walk, as they jump out of their scooters and stand at the front row, when their is an area where scooter are prohibited (in this case they listened :p)
Leaving this little intermezzo behind, let me tell you about the Fragile Forrest experience. Again a free roaming part of the zoo but this time with squirrels, exotic birds, a lot of butterflies, monkeys and giant bats.

This park also had some shows to offer, which are quite good, though mostly for children. But I can imagine that anybody can be entertainment by monkeys throwing food and a see lion doing tricks.

That is all I had to say on the Singapore Zoo, and I must say it was quite the experience!
Geweldig, die zoo in natuur bouwen is echt vet. Ik heb echt genoten van je beschrijving van het gedrag van den mensch in den tuin der dieren!
